Growing a new business. As easy as baking a cake?

Airkix 10th birthday

Airkix celebrated its tenth birthday with the help of special cake

Happy tenth birthday to favourite client Airkix Indoor Skydiving.  From a vision formed on a hospital bed to £7m turnover business employing some seventy people and serving around 170,000 customers a year, it’s been quite a journey.

The vision belonged to Simon Ward. Ward came from a background in commercial radio, but he was also an experienced skydiver until suffering a serious neck injury on the drop zone in 2003 when another skydiver crashed into him on the ground. The Airkix dream crystallized during his recovery and the first tunnel opened in Milton Keynes in 2005. The second arrived in Manchester in 2009 and the third in Basingstoke in 2013. In 2010, the company became part of iFLY, the US owned indoor skydiving business, which is currently in the midst of a rapid expansion around the world with builds currently going on in over twenty five different locations.

Not many people get to work for such an exciting business that has broken new territory by making the dream of flight a reality, for all those (me included) that want to experience it without having to jump out of a plane! And Simon Ward, now Chief Commercial Officer for iFLY, deserves all the credit for making it happen in the UK.

How did he do it? Well that’s a ten year story best told elsewhere…and no it’s not been easy. But one think is for sure – it involved some great marketing.

We’re just thrilled that in the last three years we have been given the opportunity to be a part of it.

By the way, the picture of the cake has turned out to be one of the most engaging posts on the Airkix facebook page this year!
